At the start of the Coronavirus pandemic, employers across the UK were advised to regularly test their employees’ temperatures, to identify those who may have been infected with Covid-19. As the lockdown was introduced and many businesses closed, those organisations that were still working adopted temperature monitoring as best practice. Not only to keep a watchful eye on the health of their team but also to ensure that those still working were doing in a safe and secure environment. As we move through the pandemic and more businesses return to work as a result of the Government’s easing of the lockdown restrictions, it’s more important than ever to ensure that the rate of transmission is kept as low as possible. This is going to require employers having oversight of the health of their employees. One of the best ways to do this is by continuing to test and monitor their temperature.

Under the UK Government’s new Covid-Secure guidance, considerable emphasis is placed on mitigating risks and managing the conditions in which people who cannot work from home, carry out their duties. Although temperature testing is not mandated, many of the UK’s biggest companies have already introduced required temperature checks for their employees, including Amazon, Vodafone and Heathrow Airport. Returning to work in the post-lockdown world is going to be a challenge. Workplaces are going to feel completely different, so having a quick and easy way of testing people’s temperatures is going to be essential, to make sure the transition to the new world of work is as seamless as possible.

Based in Ireland and with manufacturing operations in the UK, Eurolec Instruments has been producing highly accurate and reliable temperature testing instruments for more than 40 years. We have introduced two new products to our range of temperature detection equipment, to help your business cope with the new challenges Covid-19 presents on your workplace, regardless of the industry you operate in.

The IR Med is a non-contact infrared thermometer that is incredibly simple to use, while being wholly reliable, with an industry-standard accuracy of ± 0.3°C. The IR Med requires the simple press of a button to test someone’s forehead temperature, providing you with an indication as to whether or not it is safe for that person to be at work. The IR Med is manufactured in the UK, so you can be sure of its quality and reliability. To help ease the financial pressures that Coronavirus has placed on businesses, it’s available with free delivery to the UK mainland.

Additionally, Eurolec Instruments has introduced the IR37, which is an infrared non-contact thermometer that also uses a wide-angle camera, to detect people’s temperatures from up to two metres away. Its interface is fully customisable, allowing users to set their own acceptable temperature range as well as the spoken message the unit provides once a person’s temperature has been read. The IR37 can be easily integrated into automated door entry systems, meaning that those with a high temperature can be denied entry into the workplace. With a desk-mounted pedestal, the IR37 is incredibly easy to deploy to any indoor environment. Its German-made sensor can detect temperature readings from up to two metres away, and will help you adhere to the social distancing guidelines further, as set out by the UK Government.
