More complex computer equipment and increasing legislation present a challenge to ensuring compliance to legal and industry standards. Accredited EMC testing of computer equipment is an essential requirement in many industries such as rail, marine, medical, energy generation and defence.

Pre-compliance testing allows systems to be rigorously tested to save costs and assure confidence that a design will meet the compliance standards. This mitigates the risk of costs and delays should testing fail during certification at an accredited test house.

Captec has recently made a investment in its in-house EMC pre-compliance testing facility, set-up to meet the IEC/EN61000-4-x series of immunity test standards.

This includes the most likely failure modes in prototype computer design including electrostatic discharge (ESD) immunity (IEC/EN 61000-4-2); electrical fast transient/burst (EFT/B) immunity (IEC/EN 61000-4-4); surge immunity (IEC/EN 61000-4-5); voltage dips and interruptions immunity (IEC/EN 61000-4-11).

With this facility Captec can now provide additional levels of services to customers, to ensure that computers will meet EMC requirements, mitigating cost and delays. A selection of EMC compliance testing and support services are available, from in-house pre-testing through to full compliance management of external, accredited testing.
