Following a raft of confusion and misinformation surrounding the Machinery Directive, Pilz Automation Technology’s David Collier has moved to allay any concerns companies may have with some concise clarification.

Speaking to Industrial Compliance, Collier commented, “Some machine safety component suppliers refer to the Machinery Directive as the ‘new’ Machinery Directive. There is nothing new about it.

“The Machinery Directive (currently 2006/42/EC) came into force on 29th December 2009 (not 2011), so don’t get confused between this and the fact that EN 954-1 ceased to give a presumption of conformity to the Machinery Directive at the end of 2011. The replacement standards for EN 954-1 are EN ISO 13849-1 and EN 62061.”

Collier will ‘get the facts straight’ on the Machinery Directive in our Summer issue.
