Safety & Health Expo has announced its line-up of inspirational speakers set to entertain and inform at ExCeL London on 18-20 June 2019.

The event will host presentations from a rugby legend, a sporting icon and an expert reporter, whose diverse experiences can provide key lessons for health and safety professionals. The speeches will take place across all three days of the event.

The first speaker is reporter and journalist Steph McGovern, who joins us to discuss how she went from working as an apprentice engineer at Black & Decker in Durham to becoming an award-winning financial journalist and BBC household name. Her timely presentation will precede an afternoon of activities hosted by the Women in Health & Safety network, a popular returning feature facilitating networking and celebrating the success of women within the profession.

The second inspirational speaker is Michael Edwards, better known as Eddie the Eagle, whose heroic underdog efforts in the ski jumping competition at the 1988 Winter Olympics have earned him a place in British sporting legend. Eddie’s keynote speech will focus on risk and safety, drawing on his experience competing in a dangerous sport, as well as the value of courage and hard work against insurmountable odds. He has key lessons for health and safety professionals, but his story of perseverance is a universal one.

The line-up is completed by England rugby hero Jonny Wilkinson, who famously helped his country to a World Cup title in 2003. Jonny shares stories and lessons from his long and successful professional career, but it’s the honesty with which he has grappled with his mental health struggles during and since the end of his career that makes this presentation essential for a profession increasingly concerned with workplace wellbeing.

These informative, entertaining speeches draw on the speaker’s diverse experiences to inspire the audience of health and safety professionals to approach critical issues from new perspectives.

This impressive selection of inspirational speakers follows last year’s popular and well-received programme. Safety & Health Expo 2018 hosted comedian and mental health campaigner Ruby Wax, Rugby World Cup-winning manager Sir Clive Woodward, and former British Army brigadier Nicky Moffat.

Each brought a unique perspective to their respective presentations, imparting lessons learned over long and diverse careers to a rapt audience.

All three inspirational speeches this year are free to attend for all registered visitors to Safety & Health Expo 2019.

The speeches complement a comprehensive agenda of world-leading health and safety content at Safety & Health Expo. It is designed to help thousands of professionals adapt to the constantly changing health and safety profession by providing education, training and one-to-one advice on the latest legislation, technologies, trends and developments, in addition to access to products and solutions across occupational health, wellbeing, PPE and more.
