In a move that will strengthen its Infrastructure Safety Sector, Halma has acquired Argus Security, an Italian manufacturer of wireless fire safety systems, and its UK-based distributor, Sterling Safety Systems.

Argus Security, based in Trieste, is a leading manufacturer of products such as fire detectors, call points, sounders, and beacons. Sterling Safety Systems is Argus’ exclusive distributor in the UK, operating under the Hyfire brand.

In addition to being installed in many new construction projects, Argus’ products also protect many buildings where refurbishments or refits requiring the extensive installation of wiring would be unsightly, cause too much disruption or prove prohibitively expensive. Argus currently protects prestigious buildings such as Claridge’s Hotel, Coutts Bank and Eton College.

The wireless nature of the products also makes them ideal for installation at events. They can be found protecting temporary structures such as the accommodation facilities at Wimbledon each year and Cirque du Soleil’s huge circus tent that travels all over the world.

The Argus and Sterling management team will continue to operate the business from its current locations. The two companies will be managed as a single Halma business.

Andrew Williams, Halma’s chief executive, commented: “The global demand for wireless fire systems in commercial and industrial applications is increasing rapidly. The acquisitions of Argus and Sterling will further strengthen our Fire businesses’ wireless capabilities and accelerate future product development. There is an excellent strategic fit with our existing portfolio, as we move towards increasingly connected and integrated fire safety systems in buildings.”
