Industrial Compliance magazine takes a closer look at what visitors can expect from this year’s waste management and resource efficiency exhibition, RWM, in partnership with CIWM, taking place at the Birmingham NEC on 11th-13th September.

Resource Efficiency and Waste Management Solutions (RWM), taking place at the Birmingham NEC in September, will provide a business and learning forum for professionals from across the public and private sector, as well as major client sectors including retail, construction and facilities management. The 2012 event will feature a strong emphasis on knowledge sharing and there will be over 90 CPD accredited seminar sessions led by expert speakers across six conference theatres.

In the theatres

The speaker line-up in the Leader’s Theatre highlights the growing importance of resources and waste on the political agenda, with key ministers taking the platform including shadow waste minister, Gavin Shuker, and communities and local government minister Bob Neill. Bringing a somewhat different perspective, visitors can also go ‘off the record’ with Alastair Campbell, find answers to the universe with particle physicist Brian Cox, and debate what the future energy market might look like with professor James Woudhuysen.

Offering more tailored content to cater for different audiences, the Local Authority, Commerce & Industry, Energy from Waste, and Technology & Innovation theatres will provide a platform for a host of speakers, covering a wide range of topics from the latest policy and legislative developments, including how to achieve end of waste status for your waste, smarter ways to manage waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), and waste technology focused issues.

Taking to the floor

On the show floor there will be plenty for professionals involved in all aspects of compliance – from health and safety to pollution control.

One the PPE front, hand protection specialists BM Polyco will be displaying their latest safety glove designs, and a whole range of safety equipment will be on show from Guardsman, now one of the largest safety suppliers in the UK.

For those looking for emissions, dust and odour control systems, Odour & Dust Solutions design and fit bespoke systems to meet customer needs and Air Spectrum Environmental supply a range of liquid neutralisers and dispersal equipment – all available with purchase or rental options. The firm also offers back-up, maintenance and consultancy services and a 48 hour emergency response for unforeseen odour or dust events.

Meanwhile, for help on the full range of compliance issues, Environmental Compliance (ECL) provides a specialist range of consultancy, measurement, monitoring and training services to clients operating in a range of industrial sectors providing planning, permitting, environmental, occupational hygiene and air emissions consultancy and testing services.

Addressing noise abatement requirements, AGS Noise Control are acoustic engineers specialising in the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of acoustic enclosures and screens to noisy plant and machinery. Bespoke acoustic havens from the firm offer an environment below the first action level of the Physical Agents Directive for employees in processing and picking areas, enabling site operators to comply with relevant legislation.

Expert advice

Finding out how to comply with all the current waste legislation, including Duty of Care, Pre-treatment of Waste and the Hazardous Waste Regulations, is also made easier as the Environment Agency has a presence at the show and many of the UK’s major waste contractors, including Cory Environmental, SITA UK, Viridor and Waste Recycling Group are also on hand. There will also be specialist service providers such as PHS Wastemanagement, a national waste management company specialising in the collection, disposal and recycling services for healthcare, clinical, dental, pharmaceutical, chemical, hazardous and non-hazardous wastes.
