The SPeX ATEX single-pole power heavy duty connector from Marechal is designed for use in hazardous environments.
To maximise safety, each time the SPeX is connected or disconnected in a potentially explosive environment an ‘Ex’ positive safety micro-switch operates a contactor when the plug is inserted or removed, energising or isolating the supply accordingly.
It is capable of handling a maximum permanent current of 550A at 1,000V AC or 1,500V DC and has an automatic ingress protection of IP65/IP66 as soon as the plug is connected.
Its casing is made from fibreglass reinforced thermoplastic material, with an IK08 rating and can be operated in the temperature range -20°C to 40°C or 60°C.
The company also designs, produces and markets plugs and socket outlets for use in Zones 1, 21, 2, and 22 with combined safety ‘ed’, in compliance with ATEX.
Watertightness is automatically achieved as soon as the plug is fully inserted into the socket outlet or when the lid of the socket outlet is closed – without any other manipulation required. A sole gasket located in the socket outlet achieves IP66/67 (DXN).
The casings are made of polyamide (DXN) or metal (DX) providing resistance to corrosive environments, UV and chemical agents. They are also resistant to shocks, and are impact resistant IK 08 (DXN) and IK10 (DX).
